Title V
Cooperative Grant |
| |
The Title V Cooperative Grant
is a federally funded program that helps strengthen
institutions of higher education by various ways. In this
particular grant, the there are two institutions involved,
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Del Mar College.
These two institutions have entered into a partnership that
will better serve students from low-income and/or
first-generation backgrounds beginning in high school and
provide services until they graduate from college. This set
of activities is called "The Seamless Pipeline."
This "seamless" pipeline
consists of three different program components that begin
with the integration into college preparedness and
readiness. This is achieved by the Component I - GO Centers
located in various surrounding Coastal Bend area high
schools. This is the first leg of the journey where students
are introduced and prepared for collegiate entrance. The
second component involves having graduating Seniors from the
various Title V sponsored GO Centers attend Del Mar College
to attain their Associate degrees in the following 2 to 3
years. Finally, the third component, follows the students as
they graduate from Del Mar College with their Associate's
Degree and help them matriculate to Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi where eventually they will receive
their Bachelor's Degree. To learn more, click on the

TRiO Programs:
Upward Bound
Program &
Student Support
Services |
| |
Upward Bound, emerged
out of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in response to
the governmental War on Poverty. Its purpose is to help
expand opportunities for the increasing number of low-income
individuals wanting to pursue a college degree. In 1965,
Educational Talent Search, the second outreach program, was
created as part of the Higher Education Act. Similar to
Upward Bound, Talent Search was structured to serve a larger
population of students. In 1968, Student Support Services,
which was originally known as Special Services for
Disadvantaged Students, was authorized by the Higher
Education Amendments. It became the third in a series of
educational opportunity programs as a means to provide
educational services to students at the post-secondary
level. By the late 1960's, the name TRiO, a set of three
programs was coined. It provided comprehensive educational
and support services targeted at helping students enter
college and obtain a baccalaureate degree.
